Background of the Study
Educational reforms aimed at updating curriculum content and teaching methodologies have significant implications for bilingual education in Nigerian schools. These reforms are often designed to enhance language proficiency, integrate modern pedagogical approaches, and promote inclusive learning environments. In the context of bilingual education, reforms have targeted the development of curricula that balance the instruction of indigenous languages with global languages such as English (Chinwe, 2023). Such initiatives seek to improve language outcomes by introducing innovative teaching strategies, enhanced teacher training, and updated assessment methods. However, the effectiveness of these reforms varies widely across regions due to differences in resource allocation, teacher readiness, and administrative support (Ifeoma, 2024). In many cases, while the intended goals of the reforms are commendable, practical challenges in implementation result in uneven outcomes. This study investigates how recent educational reforms have influenced the effectiveness of bilingual curricula in Nigerian schools, evaluating their impact on student performance, teacher practices, and overall curriculum quality (Obi, 2025).

Statement of the Problem
Despite ambitious educational reforms, many Nigerian schools continue to face challenges in implementing effective bilingual curricula. Inconsistencies in teacher training, resource distribution, and administrative oversight have led to varying levels of curriculum success (Chinwe, 2023). Some schools have reported improved language proficiency and academic outcomes, while others struggle with outdated practices and low student engagement (Ifeoma, 2024). This disparity creates confusion regarding the overall efficacy of the reforms and hampers the development of standardized bilingual education practices. The lack of comprehensive evaluation of these reforms prevents policymakers from making informed decisions to further improve curriculum effectiveness (Obi, 2025).

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it critically examines the impact of educational reforms on bilingual curricula in Nigerian schools. Its findings will provide valuable insights for educators and policymakers, enabling the development of more effective language programs that enhance academic performance and bilingual proficiency (Chinwe, 2023; Ifeoma, 2024).

Scope and Limitations of the Study:
The study is limited to evaluating the impact of educational reforms on bilingual curricula in Nigerian schools and does not extend to non-formal education settings.
